"The River House is a weekend retreat located on the Rappahannock River in Virginia. Sited atop a gentle slope, the 3500sf. house marks the intersection of three landscapes: natural forest, wetlands, and a mile-wide river.

"The slender house is divided into three components: main house, guest quarters, and a multi-purpose level. It provides the owners with uninterrupted physical and visual access to the river and landscape. Much of the building is wrapped in custom sliding glass doors that can be opened to allow easy passage or to take full advantage of the prevailing breezes from the river. To maximize interior space and privacy of the main house, the entry porch acts as circulation to the guest rooms.

"The owners appreciate the natural beauty found in raw construction materials. The palette consists of poured concrete, ground face concrete block, galvanized and stainless steel, clear anodized aluminum, and cast metal industrial light fixtures." - Ziger/Snead, LLP Architects
