James E. Flanders was among the earliest architects to settle in Dallas, Texas. Flanders designed a large number of churches in Texas and Oklahoma, many of them Methodist and designed in a style blended from the horizontality of the "Prairie School" and the ornament of Louis Sullivan. Several of these small churches survive (Marlin and Stamford, Texas, for example), but Trinity Methodist Episcopal has been demolished and, therefore, removed from the National Register.
St. John's Methodist Episcopal Church, built in 1910 in Stamford, Texas was also designed by Flanders and the building's exterior is almost identical Trinity.
