Statement of Significance (as of National Historic Landmark designation - May 4, 1983): This factory (1862), as enlarged, has housed the W & L. E. Gurley Company, which is known worldwide for the design and manufacture of precision mathematical and engineering instruments. Gurley company still manufactures instruments here. The building, which has been restored, also houses the Gurley Museum. Listed on the National Register 1970-03-05 Listed as a National Historic Landmark on May 4, 1983
