[edit] Services
West Edge Architects, Peter M. Mitsakos & Associates Architects was established in 2000 with the goal of serving our clients and the community, while at the same time creating extraordinary architecture. Our firm provides Urban Design, Planning, Architectural, Programming & Interior Design Services for institutional, commercial and residential projects. We value our relationships with clients who believe that thoughtfully designed spaces can have a great and positive impact on the activities they support and on their surroundings.
[edit] Focus
We rely upon an open design process and believe the most powerful solutions embody leadership, knowledge, and conviction on the part of the entire project team. Our working methodology engages our clients, end-user groups, consultants and project management. This permits us to optimize the knowledge and the expertise of everyone in the development of the architectural concept and the resolution of the technical aspects of the building. Our designs therefore embody the resolution of a full range of project priorities, resulting in solutions that are entirely unique from project to project and at the same time satisfy budgetary, scheduling and functional realities.
[edit] Sustainable Design
In addition to respect for context and function, our mission is to create buildings that have less of an impact on the environment - locally and globally - through their construction and operation. Our fundamental belief as a firm is that sustainability is not something that is “attached” to buildings, but is integral to design.
It is up to the design team to provide leadership in identifying opportunities for the economical operation and energy efficiency of a building without sacrificing the creation of a functional, comfortable and healthy environment for its occupants. Conversely, we recognize that sustainable building strategies must be balanced with other project requirements. Many of our projects have characteristics other than those categorized as “green” that can be considered sustainable. Having more fresh air, daylight and access to the outdoors makes our buildings pleasant and healthy to inhabit. This also means they are more economical to run and, in the aggregate, have a downward impact on the cost of building.
Our collaborative methodology allows for the entire team - client, consultant and architect - to participate in the formation of the sustainable design strategy. This approach leads to the discovery of synergies where what would have been a single strategy or building feature achieves multiple objectives. We see this as good economics - for the owner, the building occupants, and the environment.
